About the Event

From the mountains to the sea, plastic pollution has permeated into the landscapes we love. What better way to support South Carolina than by coming together to combat it? Join us, South Carolina Floodwater Commission, SC7 Expedition, South Carolina National Heritage Corridor and Keep Pickens County Beautiful for a socially distanced litter sweep in Sunset, South Carolina. We’ll start off at the Sunset Post Office and spread out to sweep. Supplies will be provided. Please remember to dress for the weather and bring a reusable water bottle. Masks are recommended.

About Sweeps Across South Carolina: Sweeps Across South Carolina is a year-long initiative between the South Carolina Aquarium, South Carolina Floodwater Commission and SC7 Expedition. We are working together to draw the connection between litter in the natural environment and flooding, two issues that are prevalent throughout our beautiful state. We’re planning monthly sweeps that will move around the state and will document litter in the Litter-Free Digital Journal, a project of the South Carolina Aquarium Citizen Science app. Whether you reside in the Lowcountry, Midlands, Upstate, Pee Dee or Grand Strand, together we can help protect water, wildlife and wild places.

Sweeps Across South Carolina is made possible through Pam and D. Michael Wilson Plastic-Free Waters, an Aquarium program aimed at mitigating plastic pollution impacts through outreach, community engagement and conservation fieldwork across the state of South Carolina.
